Man attempts suicide by climbing electricity pylon in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: A man on Friday climbed an electricity pylon in Islamabad in an apparent suicide attempt.

According to details, the man climbed an electricity pylon near a fuel station in Sector F-6/1 of the capital and remained atop. Police and rescue teams were reported immediately.

They reached the site and asked the man to come down to which he refused. The rescue team told the man has a mobile phone with him and did not reveal the reason of his action.

To what appears as a suicide attempt, police have not ascertained the cause and wait till they communicate with the person.

Policemen and rescue team made efforts to safely bring the man down. They have arranged a crane to help him and made preparations to save him in case he jumps.

Last year, authorities had succeeded in prevention an attempted suicide by rescuing a rickshaw driver who had climbed on top of a pole frightening to take his life.

Unable to afford his family’s medical expenses after the traffic police detained his only source of income, a rickshaw, the driver climbed atop the pole in annoyance near Ferozepur Road’s Model Town Katcheri around 7am, sources said.
