ECP data shows disparity in sizes of constituencies: report

ISLAMABAD: The preliminary report issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday for the delimitation of constituencies, for the upcoming general elections in the country, shows that there are around 30 unusually large and small constituencies with regards to population, according to a local English daily.

The average population per constituency, which has been calculated on the basis of the last year’s census findings, excluding the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata), comes to 779,886.

According to an analysis by the ECP in its report seven constituencies exist with more than a million population whereas there are at least 23 other constituencies having a population of over 900,000.

NA-35 Bannu in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with a population of 1,167,892, NA-87 Hafizabad-I in Punjab with a population of 1,156,957 are some of the most populous constituencies, whereas NA-262 Kachhi-Jhal Magsi constituency in Balochistan with the population of 386,255 is one of the least populous ones.
