The Islamabad High Court on Friday sought reply from Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in a plea moved by former Religious Affairs minister Hamid Saeed Kazmi to unseal his property.
Justice Mian Gul Hasan Aurengzeb after hearing preliminary arguments placed by the counsel for Hamid Saeed Kazmi issued notice to respondents.
The petitioner took the stance that he was acquitted in all the corruption cases from the Islamabad High Court but his accounts and property which was freezed by the FIA during investigation was not de-freezed yet. He said that his name was also cleared from the Exit Control List (ECL) on the directions of the court but status of his property was not cleared so far.
The bench inquired the counsel whether any case was subjudice in any court of law regarding corruption against the petitioner, the counsel’s reply was in negative.
Subsequently the bench seeking reply from the FIA adjourned further hearing on the case for two weeks.
On March 3, 2016, a special court had sentenced Hamid to 16 years in prison. His two ministry lieutenants, former director general Rao Shakeel and former joint secretary Raja Aftabul Islam, were also jailed for massive irregularities during Hajj operations between 2009 and 2012, however IHC acquitted him from the charges. The former minister had spent nearly two years in prison over charges of irregularities.
