KARACHI: Just after a day of her video message, the key witness in Intezar murder case, Madiha Kyani, has retracted her “pre-planned murder” statement.
During her appearance before Joint Investigation Team (JIT), Kyani withdrew her statement saying she recorded that video under duress.
It was the fifth meeting of JIT led by Inspector General (IG) Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) Dr Sanaullah Abbasi. The JIT had summoned Madiha Kyani, Intezar’s father Ishtiaq Ahmed, father of his former classmate Mahrukh, and friend Kazim Shah.
According to sources, the key statement was from Mahrukh’s father, Sohail Hameed.
While recording his statement from the United States through video link, Hameed told the JIT that Intezar and his daughter were class fellows and he did call Ishtiaq Ahmed once about his son’s frequent calls to his daughter, Mahrukh.
He, however, denied that he made threats to Ishtiaq Ahmed.
In a video message, on February 28, Madiha Kyani claimed that Intezar’s murder was pre-planned and deceased had told him that his car was marked and being followed.
Madiha was accompanying Intezar at the time of his murder.
She further claimed that her life is in danger and appealed Sindh Rangers to provide her security.
Intezar Ahmed was killed on January 13, when Anti Car Lifting Cell (ACLC) of Karachi police opened fire on his vehicle at Khayaban-e-Ittihad, DHA, Karachi.
