LAHORE: Renowned religious scholar Maulana Tariq Jameel on Wednesday called upon the masses to not be part of such political and religious parties that were provoking them for violence because religion and politics were not meant for creating turmoil and conflicts. He advised the students not to become a tool of such politicians and religious leaders who were driving them towards negative directions.
The religious scholar was addressing a lecture organised by Punjab University (PU) Directorate of Students Affairs at Faisal Auditorium. PU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Zakria Zakar, Registrar Dr Muhammad Khalid Khan, Engineering and Technology Faculty Dean Prof Dr Muhammad Taqi Zahid Butt, Students Affairs Director Shahid Gul, faculty deans, heads of various departments, faculty members, employees and a large number of students were present on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, Maulana Tariq Jameel said, “We are Muslims and this is our only introduction.”
He said that Muslims must not divide into sects, adding that the people who were dividing the Muslims into sects and the politicians who were using the Ummah for their own negative politics were big terrorists.
He further said that fanning the feelings of hatred in the name of religion was against the teachings of Islam, adding that Muslims must not cultivate hatred against anyone in their hearts because it was Sunnah to refrain from cultivating hatred.
The renowned religious scholar said that if the youth would forget about building their character, nothing would be able to save them from a debacle. He said that high moral values and forgiving others on their mistakes were the biggest assets of Muslims, adding that all the prophets of Allah wanted them to be good human beings. He said that following the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was the only way to reach Allah and get eternal success.
Maulana Tariq Jameel advised the students to master their subjects to the extent that foreigners would approach them to seek knowledge. He said that controlling the tongue was the conclusion of the teachings of Islam. He further said that people must respect every relationship and take care of their parents.
Addressing the seminar, Prof Dr Zakria Zakar said that knowledge and tolerance were interconnected. He said that the administration would make PU an emblem of knowledge, peace and welfare. He said that knowledge could not flourish where there was violence.
The PU VC further said that violence and hardliners were intolerable. He said that the administration would pay special attention towards the character building of students, adding that people must serve humanity through their knowledge.
