Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chief Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Monday called on the national leaders to work towards “ending the glorification of violence in the society.”

Addressing an event organised in connection with the Asia Peace Film Festival at the Expo Centre Karachi, he said that it was the time we defeated terrorism by stopping to glorify violence.

“A country like Pakistan has lost so much to the increasing terrorism in the world,” he said and highlighted the importance of diversity in order to counter terrorism that he said had “managed to instill fear among the masses.”

The PPP leader said that all segments of the society deserved the right of diversification to strengthen ideologies against terror and the youth was unfortunately at the forefront of violent conflicts as more and more young people were being conditioned to idealise the forces of death and terror.

“In such a situation, one instrumental factor can be to portray the real truth about life, humanity, compassion, justice and the truth of themselves,” he added.

“I am determined to claim art with culture and reignite the flame of creativity and cultural self-expression,” Bilawal said and added, “I urge all segments of society to unite, so we give our people a new direction, space to celebrate diversity.”

“I am confident that the Asia peace film festival is a step in the right direction. I suggest that the Sindh government take such festivals to the grassroots level, creating spaces for people cinema as an alternative,” said the PPP chief.
