KARACHI: Police on Sunday took seven people into custody in Karachi in connection with the viral video of a young man firing into the air on Shahrah-e-Faisal. The development comes a day after Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) AD Khowaja and Home Minister Sohail Siyal took notice of the incident and ordered an inquiry into the matter.
The video circulating on social media since Friday night shows a man, who identifies himself as Adnan Pasha, waving a gun and firing shots in the air while muttering expletives against an unknown person, on an empty road that he claims is the main Shahrah-e-Faisal in Karachi.
According to his social media profile, the man who appears to be intoxicated in the video, is the owner of a car rental company.
In a second video which surfaced later, Pasha accused one Zeeshan Saeed, whom he calls Shani, of having killed his father and threatened him with consequences.
In a more recent video message released Sunday, Pasha apologises for the incident and says that he fired only two bullets and that was his way of chanelling his anger regarding his father’s death.
He repeated his allegations regarding Saeed being involved in his father’s murder and said that he was still receiving threatening phone calls from him.
Police on Sunday reported that they raided the residence of Pasha’s in-laws in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, his office and a mobile market in addition to his own residence, taking a total of seven people into custody, including two of Pasha’s brothers-in-law. The police claim that Pasha himself has escaped along with his wife and sister.
