KARACHI: The son of a local partner of a Chinese shipping company, which had hinted at transferring some of its business from a port in the Persian Gulf to Gwadar Port, has gone missing from the city’s Saddar area under mysterious circumstances, however, a case has as yet not been registered by the police.
Police said they were notified of the man’s disappearance two days ago, and confirmed that the missing person is the son of a local partner of a Chinese state-owned shipping giant.
A Chinese national who was shot dead in Karachi earlier this month also belonged to the same shipping corporation, which is all set to start its operations at Gwadar Port from March 7.
The company, under the multi-billion dollar China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), will run weekly shipping services from Gwadar Port to Dubai’s Port Jebel Ali – a major commercial port in the region.
Earlier on February 5, a Chinese national was shot dead on Monday in an apparent targeted killing by armed assailants in Karachi.
The incident, which took place in Karachi’s Zamzama area, was termed targeted killing as the victim was shot after being followed by armed assailants, police said. A passerby identified as Hassan Abbas was wounded in the incident.
According to Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal in an interview with BBC on February 8, neighbouring country India, which has undue apprehensions over the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project, may be involved in the killing of Chinese nationals in Karachi.
He is not a Chinese… anyway, Sindh Government is pathetic and Karachi is a hell
