ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday adjourned the hearing of the case regarding Punjab Police’s out of turn promotions till Wednesday (tomorrow).

A five-member larger bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar observed that the ground on which the court allowed promotions had become ineffective and when the grounds become ineffective, further questioning that how could then the promotions be sustained?

During the course of proceedings, counsel for the affected police officers Khawaja Haris apprised the court that the officers, who got promotions, had been protected by the court.

The chief justice remarked that if the court had given protection to the promoted officers, the larger bench had jurisdiction to review the protection.

He remarked that the court order giving protection to the promotion could be withdrawn because if the grounds had become ineffective, the promotions cannot sustain.

The counsel said that the morale and self-respect of other officers would be affected due to the demotions. He also requested the court that the officers could also be given an option of retirement. The court adjourned the hearing of the case after completion of arguments by the counsel.
