PESHAWAR: KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak on Tuesday said the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) should adopt the procedure of show of hand instead of secret balloting in the upcoming Senate polls.
Speaking to a delegation of media persons from the federal capital who visited Peshawar, he further said that he had written a letter to the ECP in this connection.
“The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) will successfully win 6 seats of the upper house of the parliament in the upcoming polls,” said the chief minister while adding that 49 votes were required for the general seat and 43 for the technocrat and woman seats while the PTI had 64 members.
“By the grace of Allah, the PTI-led government of KP has changed the province despite limited resources and major reforms have been introduced in every sector including that of education, health, legislation,” he said.
Highlighting the performance of his government, Pervez Khattak said that when PTI assumed the charge of the province, approximately 90% of the roads were dilapidated and even the tenders for these roads were sold.
“The commission mafia had made the development projects substandard,” he said while adding that PTI’s government introduced a better and transparent system for the development projects.
He said that the KP government prioritised the provision of better healthcare and education facilities to the people instead of starting “red and yellow passenger buses” like the Punjab government.
The chief minister also said that the KP government provided facilities such as modern furniture to approximately 28 thousand schools of the province and over 45 thousand teachers were recruited through NTS. Monitoring systems in schools were also launched due to which their performance has significantly improved, he added.
“The government has also introduced a monitoring system in a majority of public hospitals to ensure the attendance of doctors and other paramedical staff,” he said.
Pervez Khattak alleged that the federal government’s behaviour was the main hurdle in KP’s development projects. “Our government wants to generate cheap electricity but the federal government is not willing to purchase it,” he explained.
He also said that five districts of KP were being connected under the CPEC due to which the people of Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera, Charsada and Chakdara would be facilitated.
