ISLAMABAD: Sindh Governor Muhammad Zubair said on Tuesday that the federal government is working on various sectors including modern transport system in order to facilitate a large number of people living in the megacity of Karachi.

“We have focused on bringing foreign investors, besides local businessmen, to use the opportunity of peaceful environment in Karachi and make investment in different sectors,” he said while talking to a private news channel.

He said that there were target killings, extortion and other criminal activities cases in Karachi, but Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government, after coming into power in 2013 elections, had focused on Karachi and discussed the problems with all the stakeholders for restoring peace and addressing other problems in this business hub of the country.

The government, he said, had given full authority to Rangers and other law enforcement agencies to launch operations in Karachi without any discrimination.

“We never made any interruption in the working of law enforcement agencies regarding the Karachi operation,” he said.

Now, after restoring peace, the focus was given to attract foreign investors besides streamlining the transport and water system for the people of Karachi, he added.

In response to a question about political situation, he said that there is a political vacuum in Karachi after rift in the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P).

To another question, the governor said that federal government has launched many projects in rural Sindh.
