PESHAWAR: National Highways Authority (NHA) and district administration on Tuesday jointly started a drive against illegal billboards around motorway near Charsadda interchange and pulled them down.

In the presence law enforcement personnel, the staff of NHA and the district administration led by Charsadda Assistant Commissioner Talat Fahad used heavy machinery to pull down the illegal billboards, raised around the Charsadda interchange and retrieved millions worth of government land from the occupants.

Talking to media, the AC said that no one would be allowed to take law into his own hands and the operation against illegal structures would continue indiscriminately.

Meanwhile, people urged the district administration to take action against illegal rickshaw stands in Shabqadar bazaar, which had created great inconvenience for people.

Besides the illegal encroachments by shopkeepers at different places of bazaars, the residents said that four-wheelers were parked at any place which caused traffic jams. Therefore, they said that there was a need that officials concerned of the district administration should take serious note of the issue and remove illegal taxi or rickshaw stands for extending relief to the people of the area.
