LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Saturday allowed former finance minister Ishaq Dar to contest the upcoming Senate elections.
An appellate bench of the high court set aside the returning officer’s decision that had rejected his nomination papers for the Senate polls.
The verdict came on an election petition filed by Ishaq Dar through which he challenged the rejection of his nomination papers.
In his petition, Dar submitted through his counsel that the returning officer rejected his nomination papers for the Senate polls despite the fact that he had fulfilled all legal requirements.
He argued that his nomination was rejected without giving him a fair hearing.
Dar’s counsel contended that the returning officer rejected the nomination papers merely on the basis of allegations.
The bench was requested to set aside the returning officer’s decision of rejecting the nomination papers of the former finance minister.
In another case, the LHC also dismissed a petition of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf ( PTI) challenging the nomination papers of Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s sister Sadia Abbasi for the Senate polls.
The appellate bench of the high court gave this verdict after hearing arguments of both sides.
PTI leader Andleeb Abbas challenged the returning officer’s decision to accept Sadia Abbasi’s nomination for the Senate on a seat reserved for women.
Abbasi’s lawyer argued that the petitioner did not raise objections on his client’s nomination papers before the returning officer during their scrutiny. He stated the petition was not maintainable and requested the court to dismiss it.
In the petition, the PTI leader argued that the premier’s sister had concealed details of her assets in the nomination papers.
Besides, she also possessed the nationality of more than one country, therefore, she was not eligible to be a senator, the petitioner argued.
Meanwhile, the bench also dismissed another petition filed by the PTI leader through which she challenged the acceptance of PML-N candidate Nuzhat Sadiq’s nomination papers for the Senate polls.
Andleeb Abbas challenged Sadiq’s nomination, arguing that she had not placed on record any proof to show that she had surrendered her dual nationality.
The PML-N candidates – Sadia Abbasi and Nuzhat Sadiq – had filed nomination papers for the Senate seat reserved for women from Punjab, which were accepted by the ECP’s returning officer after their scrutiny.
Salute the Hon Judge who allows Mr Ishaq Dar to contest Senate elections. A God given opportunity and a Karishma. Once in the senate, likely to take over as Finance Minister and the per head loan burden will increase ten times more on each citizen of this country which is Rs 130000 now. His assets will increase ten times more than what increased between 1991 and 2017. Again Tomato will be selling Rs 300 a kg and petrol will be selling Rs 200 a liter. Everything is possible when Bachha Sakkas rule the destiny of the country.

LHCs order must have been written blindly during loadshedding hours. If the arbiters are this oblivious, Then the few educated people fighting for an honorable future of this country; have already been defeated.
Thus proved LHC is politically motivated or burdened. Under coercion orders passed. CJP may fix LHC’s brains.
Absconding from justice is a criminal offense, it is not an allegation, Dar has committed this offense, he is still a fugitive, that makes him a criminal, how can a criminal be allowed to contest elections? Pakistan.
