ISLAMABAD: An accountability court on Friday rejected former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s request to be exempted from appearing before the court hearing corruption references against the Sharif family, forcing him to postpone his visit to London.

The former premier had planned on visiting his wife Kulsoom Nawaz in London who is currently undergoing treatment for lymphoma. He, along with his family, had requested the court to be exempted from appearing for the hearings from February 19 to March 5.

The accountability court rejected their request, forcing Nawaz to postpone his visit to London.

This development came after National Accountability Bureau (NAB) ordered that Nawaz’s name be put on the Exit Control List (ECL).

The references filed by NAB are related to Al-Azizia Steel Mills, Flagship Investment Ltd and Avenfield properties in London.
