ISLAMABAD: The National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) and the post office on Thursday signed an agreement to open registration counters at post offices in several rural areas in order to help people submit their applications for a Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC), as reported by a local English daily.

Federal Minister for Postal Services Maulana Amir Zaman, Nadra director general Nisar Mir and Pakistan Post chairperson Rubina Tayyab were present on the occasion.

According to a spokesperson for Nadra, the facility will start with a few post offices but will gradually be extended to all post offices. He said that these offices will not be limited to CNIC issuance only; they will have other facilities as well.

The main purpose, according to the spokesperson, is to make national registration accessible to people living in rural and far-flung areas.
