KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday while hearing a missing person’s case ordered the Sindh Inspector General AD Khawaja to personally supervise an inquiry into the kidnapping and extrajudicial killing of a man, Abdul Jabbar Talpur, a resident of Matiari by Nawabshah police.

A two-judge bench was headed by Justice Naimatullah Phulpoto which also directed the police chief to make all possible efforts for an impartial enquiry to be conducted and a report be submitted the by the next hearing.

Victim’s father brought this into the knowledge of the judges that law enforcement agencies had taken his son into their custody from Matiari a couple of years ago but never disclosed his whereabouts to the family.

He further said that they were told that the provincial home department had formed a joint investigation team on the directions of the high court, but it did not do anything to recover his son.

Earlier, the court was informed by the petitioner that the Nawabshah SSP had told him that his son was taken into custody by some policemen with the intention of ‘half-fry’, meaning they meant to injure him in a staged encounter, however, he was unintentionally killed, the officer had disclosed, adding that the cops involved in staged encounter were paid for this.

The bench members expressed their displeasure over the report submitted to the court by the JIT while summoning the Station House Officer (SHO) of the concerned area, Maqsood Channa, on the next hearing
