  • Newly appointed DRAP chief calls on health minister

LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Primary and Secondary Healthcare (P&SH) Khawaja Imran Nazir on Thursday said interprovincial coordination was essential to eradicate spurious and substandard medicines from the country and to regulate the prices and quality of medicines.

He stated this while talking to the new chief executive of the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) Shiekh Akhtar, who called on the minister at his office. Besides P&SH Secretary Ali Jan Khan, Drug Wing Additional Secretary Muhammad Sohail, DRAP Punjab Additional Director Asim Rauf, Punjab Chief Drug Controller Dr Munawar Hayat and other concerned officers also attended the meeting.

Issues related to medical devices, disposable items, registration, and prices as well as the quality of medicines were also discussed in detail. It was proposed that a focal person from both sides should be nominated for close coordination to regulate the whole system and to ensure availability of quality medicines.

It was decided that the Punjab health department and DRAP would further extend their cooperation under the policy of interprovincial coordination for the monitoring of medicine prices and quality.
