ISLAMABAD: At least 28 candidates from various political parties as well as independent candidates have filed their nomination papers for 11 Senate seats from Balochistan.
According to details, Amir Afzal Khan from the Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N), Mohammad Akram from National Party (NP), Humayon Aziz Kurd from Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP), Nizamuddin Kakar from Awami National Party (ANP), Yousaf Khan Kakar from Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP), Sardar Shafeeq Tareen from PkMAP, and Maulvi Faiz Mohammad from Jamiat Ulema-e Islam (JUI-F) have filed their nomination papers for general seats.
Moreover, Mohammad Sadiq Sanjrani, Ahmed Khan, Mohammad Abdul Qadir, Alauddin, Anwarul Haq Kakar, Kauda Babar, Fateh Mohammad Baloch and Hussain Islam have filed nomination papers as independent candidates. Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar is the spokesman for Balochistan government.
Seven candidates are in the run for two technocrat seats. Those who have filed papers for technocrat seats include Tahir Bizenjo from NP, Kamran Murtaza JUI-F, Hussain Islam as an independent candidate, Nizamuddin from NP, Naseebullah Barzai from PML-N, Dr Manaf Tareen from PkMAP and Abdul Qadir have filed papers as independent candidates.
For two women slots, Tahira Khursheed Baloch from NP, Sana Jamali as an independent, Shama Parveen Magsi from JUI-F, Abida Umar from PkMAP and Samina Mumtaz from PML-N have filed their nomination papers.
PSP jumps in the race for Senate from Sindh Assembly:
While confusion prevails after further divisions cropped up between two groups of Mutahidda Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), another faction of the Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) has also filed seven candidates for Senate elections.
This is the first time that PSP has fielded its candidates for any election as in the past, the party had boycotted all by-elections held in Sindh.
According to details, party’s senior leader Advocate Anees Ahmed Khan, Hassaan Sabir, Dr Saghir Ahmed and Syed Mubashar Imam have filed their nomination papers for general seats in the Sindh Assembly.
Moreover, Sofia Saeed Shah has filed her papers for technocrat and women seats besides, Dr Mohan Manjiani who has filed papers for a Non-Muslim seat in the Senate from Sindh.
