NEW DELHI: Parliament member of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Vinay Katiyar on Wednesday issued a statement which read: “Muslims should not even be living in this country, they should go to Pakistan or Bangladesh”.

He also claimed that ‘Muslims partitioned the country’ on religious lines. The Muslim population in India is roughly estimated to be somewhere around 179 million.

Katiyar, who is also the founder of Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s (VHP) youth wing, Bajrang Dal, further added that a bill that guarantees punishment for those ‘who do not respect Vande Mataram, (and) those who insult the national flag or hoist the Pakistani flag’ should be introduced in the Parliament.

The politician’s statements are reportedly in response to All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen (AIMIM) President Asaduddin Owaisi who had called for a law to punish anyone who calls an Indian Muslim a “Pakistani”.

“Muslims shouldn’t even be living in this country, they’re the ones who partitioned this country based on their population, so why do they need to live here? They were given separate territory, they should go to Pakistan or Bangladesh, what business do they have here?” questioned Katiyar.

Earlier on Tuesday, Owaisi who was speaking in the Lok Sabha, advocated a three-year jail term for those found guilty of calling an Indian Muslim a ‘Pakistani’.

“Even after 70 years, I am called a Pakistani. Why? We rejected Jinnah’s invitation. Now I can’t even hoist the tricolour at free will. Why can’t there be a law just like those that apply to SC/STs?” Owaisi had asked.

A few days ago, Bareilly’s district magistrate had questioned the ‘trend’ of ‘entering Muslim localities by force, raising anti-Pakistan slogans and then creating a ruckus’.

Bareilly district magistrate Vikram Singh recently came under fire over a Facebook post in which he wrote: “A very strange trend has started of late. Take out processions by force through Muslim dominated localities and raise anti-Pakistan slogans. Why? Are these people Pakistani? The same thing had happened in Khailam village of Bareilly. Then stones were pelted, FIRs lodged,”.

However, he deleted the post after an outburst of widespread anger from ruling quarters.

  1. If Hindus cannot live in Kashmir or Pakistan then Muslims will also be denied living in India. Muslims must understand that their actions have equal and opposite reactions from other faiths. Look at Myanmar for guidance. This is what is going to happen in India one day. Only at very huge scale. Even Sri Lanka is simmering. Muslims in subcontinent must strive to live peacefully with Hindus, Sikhs and Buddhists.
