ISLAMABAD: The Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav is currently undergoing a trial on terrorism and sabotage charges, as reported by a local English daily.

The Pakistan government has approached Indian officials about this matter on a number of times, but New Delhi has not been sufficiently cooperative about this matter.

Pakistani authorities want to record statements of all of the suspected people involved in Jadhav’s spying network and may include charges of “crimes against Pakistan” apart from the terrorism charges he already faces. This matter will be brought up in the International Court of Justice (ICJ) where the trial is underway.

The official who talked to the newspaper said that only the spying case against Jadhav has been concluded, out of the multiple cases against him.

Pakistan security forces arrested Kulbhushan Jadhav from Balochistan on March 3 last year after he reportedly entered the province from Iran. However, India maintains that Jadhav was kidnapped from Iran where he had business interests after retiring from the Indian Navy.

Jadhav’s sentencing had evoked a sharp reaction in India. After India approached the International Court of Justice (ICJ), a 10-member bench on May 18 restrained Pakistan from executing Jadhav till adjudication of the case.

The ICJ has asked Pakistan to submit its response or memorial by December 13 before the court could start further proceedings in the case.
