ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has approved the names of seven candidates for the upcoming Senate elections in a meeting presided by party chief Imran Khan.

The names that were approved included Azam Sawati, Fida Hussain, Faisal Javed, Mehrtaj Roghani, Khayal Zaman and Ayub Afridi for the seats from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar will contest the Senate election from Punjab.

It may be mentioned here that Azam Swati will retire from Senate after completing his six-year term.

It is pertinent to mention that PTI and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) have formed a joint committee to finalise the name of candidates for the elections of the Senate.

Senate elections in the country are announced to be held in March. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had issued the schedule for the elections last week.

According to the ECP, polling to elect senators will be held on March 3, whereas nomination papers can be submitted from February 4-6 and their scrutiny would be completed by February 9, while the final list of the contestants would be issued on February 15.
