LAHORE: Five labourers were buried under mud while working on the Orange Line Metro Train (OLMT) project at Lakshmi Chowk on Monday.
Rescue teams reached the spot of the incident soon after the occurrence and immediately started with the operation to rescue the workers.
All five labourers were rescued and shifted to a nearby hospital for medical aid.
The construction work on the OLMT project continues apace across the city on various sites in a bid to make up for the loss of time caused due to the stay order that the Lahore High Court (LHC) had on the project for 14 months.
Punjab chief minister had earlier directed the concerned authorities to ‘burn the midnight oil’ for the earliest completion of the project and the speed of work may further be accelerated on allied works attached to it.
While the chief minister is regularly monitoring the progress of the project, according to senior government officials, the people of the provincial capital owing to the OLMT, will soon be able to enjoy economical, honourable and cheap transport facilities.
According to reports, the metro train once operational will be comparable to the finest across the world including Moscow’s Kaluzhsko-Rizhskaya.
