Voters verification to be completed by April 30 in Rawalpindi district

RAWALPINDI: The first phase of the general election voters verification, aimed at checking new National Identity Card (NIC) holders and deceased voters in Rawalpindi district, would be completed by February 8.

According to the Rawalpindi District Election Commissioner (DEC) office sources, every effort was being made to complete the entire process which had started on January 15 this year by April 30. “Door-to-door voters’ verification process is taking place to finalize arrangements for the general elections of 2018,” said the sources.

Around 29 assistant registration officers and 2,221 verification officers had been assigned to complete the task. At present, over 2.95 million voters have been registered in the district including 1.57 million men and 1.37 million women.

The data entry of verified NIC holders, deceased voters and adjustment of affected census blocks at the district level will be completed within the next 10 days, from February 9 to 18. While the data processing and printing of updated electoral rolls will be completed within the next 15 days, from February 19 to March 5.

The verified voters’ lists will be displayed at display centres – to be set up at prominent places including offices of registration officers, assistant registration officers and display centers at circle level in the district for almost a month – from March 6 to April 4.

It was decided that 40 days would be given for the disposal of objections and applications for corrections, these applications can be submitted from March 6 to April 14. The final lists will be displayed on April 30 at the DEC office.

During the campaign, special focus is being given to registration of women, people with disabilities and transgenders.
