Taliban’s recruitment officer arrested, almost 100 Taliban killed in Afghanistan

NANGARHAR: Nangarhar Provincial media office said on Sunday that a Taliban’s recruitment officer and a member of the group were arrested in the province, reported by Tolo news.

According to the officials, Mawlawi Rafiullah, who is a resident of Khogyani district of Nangarhar province, was arrested in PD4 in Jalalabad and arrested another Taliban member from Sherzad district.

The media office said that the detainees confessed to their own crimes. Officials also said an investigation is underway.

Earlier on, The Ministry of Defence said on Sunday at least one hundred insurgents were killed in the past 24 hours during Afghan forces’ operations across the country.

Ministry spokesman Dawlat Waziri said that the insurgents were killed in Faryab, Kandahar, Ghazni, Nangarhar, Helmand, Maidan Wardak and Logar provinces, during the operations security forces notched up many achievements.

Forces seized weapons and ammunition, Waziri added.

Taliban has not commented on the operations yet.

Ghazni incident kills two women

Ghazni officials said on Sunday that two women were killed in a roadside explosion in Gelan district on Saturday.

According to the officials, the incident occurred on Saturday when a civilian vehicle hit the IED, in which three children, a man, and another woman were wounded.

All the victims are members of one family and they were on their way home from visiting one of their relative’s graves.

So far, no group including the Taliban has claimed responsibility.
