ISLAMABAD: A meeting of the National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privileges was held Friday at the Parliament House under the chairmanship of member of National Assembly (MNA) Rana Muhammad Qasim Noon.

The committee prayed for the departed souls of late MNA Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani and his wife. The committee welcomed MNA Rana Muhammad Ishaq Khan for becoming a member of the Standing Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privileges.

On the amendment moved by MNA Naeema Kishwar Khan regarding Rule 48 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007, the committee directed the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs and the Ministry of Law and Justice to further go through the amendment and report to the committee in its next meeting.

On the complaint of MNAs Shagufta Jumani and Sheikh Salahuddin regarding NADRA chairman’s unavailability, the committee took notice of the matter and decided to discuss it at the next meeting of the committee.

The committee also directed the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs secretary to suggest proposals for the committee for making amendments in the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007, on a monthly basis.

The committee disposed of the questions of privileges moved by MNAs Malik Abdul Ghaffar Dogar, Siraj Ahmed Khan, Amjid Ali Khan, Mian Imtiaz Ahmed, and Abdul Majid Khan Khanankhail.

On the question of privileges, raised by MNAs Ghalib Khan and Muhammad Jamal Ul Din against South Waziristan Political Agent Zafar Ul Islam, the committee expressed its displeasure over the irresponsible attitude of Zafar Ul Islam with the honorable members and said that this was the third question of privilege against Islam.

The committee unanimously decided that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) chief secretary should inquire into the matter as per Efficiency and Discipline (E&D) Rules by discontinuing the MCMC training of Islam in National Institute of Management (NIM), Peshawar, and report to the committee in its next meeting. However, the committee dropped the agenda till its next meeting.
