Religious affairs ministry requests SC to combine cases against 2018 Hajj policy

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Religious Affairs (MORA) on Wednesday requested the Supreme Court (SC) to combine the multiple cases it is facing regarding the 2018 Hajj policy.

A media outlet reported that the ministry, which is currently facing multiple cases in the Lahore and Sindh high courts regarding its policy, has asked the court to hear all the cases as one in the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

The petitions filed in provincial courts had declared the new Hajj policy against Sharia as it prevents individuals from performing the pilgrimage more than once within a stipulated period of time.

In lieu of the petitions, the LHC and SHC ordered that the Haj Lucky Draw 2018, be postponed until the matter is resolved. Ministry officials said that the lucky draw was scheduled to be held on January 26 but a new date to conduct it will be announced soon.

The LHC had also ordered the ministry to stop conducting balloting of 17 per cent quota of the government Hajj scheme.

The government Haj quota was increased to 67 per cent this year, keeping in view that though many pilgrims seek the services of private companies for Hajj purposes, there also thousands of people who apply for the annual government scheme that involves a lucky draw.

  2. Govt have no interest in balloting because of interest on the huge amount of the deposited money by the innocent peoples.

  4. There should be no private quota coz it has become business now and tours operators are looting people and oftenly they deceive people by issuing visit visa. It should be stopped immediately. Highly injustice caused to innocent people

  9. Postponed in lucky draw developed a sad environment. But, hope so, ministry shall win the case and 67% peoples of pakistan perform Hajj through government.

  12. SC verdict is very important and should open and clear present and future any mishaps in hajj policy and procedures.

I think the Hajj Ministry should make it a policy that Hajjis intending to perform Hajj in a year should decide and disclose officially which scheme they like to apply i.e. Government Scheme or Private Scheme. Any one who apply in government scheme and his name is not selected in balloting should not be allowed to proceed on private quota. If he can sustain and go on private quota, then he should not apply on government scheme. This is the main reason for such a heavy turnout of hajj applications in government scheme. These people first apply in government scheme and when their name do not come they go on private. They infact encroach upon the right of the genuine people who saves money for hajj after much sacrifices.

Well I don’t know whether govt is using Hajj collection funds or not, n supreme court should also investigate this, n if this this z happening then benefit must be give to Hajis n not govt, I m confident that honourable supreme court will realize that for a common person it takes years to collect such huge money to perform this important pillar of Islam,

  22. The Chief Justice of Mr. Justtice Saqib Nisar should take So motive action in hajj balloting issue and save the expected Hujjaj from the cruel hands of Private Tour Operator who want to increase their quota for their Profit Earning. They don’t think Hajj is FARAZ who can afford to offer.
    Private hajj operators should be allotted nominal quota for VIPs or V V I Ps who can afford heavy costs and want to enjoy luxurious facilities.

  25. My comments r that we made the Hajj business.
    Government is not serious in this serious issue,SC is only the hope of citizens of Pakistan,they should take quick decision and banned all high courts to accept such cases in future where multiple verdicts are expected so only SC or شرعیہ عدالت should take decisions with no appeals.
    In my view there should be no private Hajj ,only and only Government should perform this noble duty with no political influence. Hajj ministery should be controlled by شرعی کورٹ not by the political government.

The supreme court should take special interest in this case as it is of public importance ………Moreover, the court may allow the private companies a 50% quota with the restriction to charge less than the government scheme…. Otherwise , It is against the interest of the poor people to give these butchers in the name of Islam more than 10% quota …..
