ISLAMABAD: Pakistan hosted the 3rd Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO) attorneys/prosecutors general conference at Islamabad from 30-31 January 2018.
Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani was the chief guest of the inaugural session of the conference. High-level delegates from the offices of the attorneys/prosecutors general of the ECO member states participated in the conference.
ECO Secretary General Halil Ibrahim Akca headed the delegation of the ECO Secretariat.
The conference was chaired by Attorney-General of Pakistan (AGP) Ashtar Ausaf Ali. The meeting deliberated upon issues such as mutual legal assistance, judicial cooperation, human trafficking, migrant smuggling, drug trafficking, transnational organised crime and terrorism, fight against cybercrime, judicial reforms, measures against corruption and mutual cooperation among attorneys/prosecutors general offices.
The AGP also hosted a cultural evening followed by a welcome dinner for the delegates.
The successful holding of this meeting is a manifestation of the desire and commitment of the member states to transform ECO into a vibrant and leading regional bloc. It is also a testament to Pakistan’s commitment to act as a harbinger of positive changes and development in the region.
On the sidelines of the conference, the ECO secretary-general, along with heads of delegations of ECO member states paid a courtesy call on the president of Pakistan. The ECO secretary-general also called on the prime minister of Pakistan.
