LONDON: A high court judge last week dismissed Tablighi Jamaat’s (TJ) plan to build Europe’s biggest mosque in East London and disallowed their plea for an appeal against the judgement, reported a local English daily.
According to reports, only the European Court of Human Rights can now stop council bulldozers rolling into the 17-acre land, which the trustees of the UK Tablighi Jamaat bought it in 1995 for 1.6m pounds.
In case the European Court of Human Rights does not give any restraining order, the Newham Borough Council will start demolishing the building itself if not done by the trustees within six months.
The trustees of Tablighi Jamaat have been directed to pay London Borough of Newham £22,207 as costs within four months and can be acted against if the payment is not made by Feb 23. However, Local groups have started pressurising the authorities for an early demolition of the existing mosque.
