SWABI: Three members of the transgender community were injured here on Sunday night after they were fired at in Swabi’s Yar Hussain Tehsil, reported Dawn News.

Transgender Association President Qamar Naseem said that the persons were on their way back from an event when assailants reportedly tried to sexually abuse them.

“The attackers opened fire after the transgender persons resisted the attempted abuse,” said the police and added that two of them were critically injured as a result of the firing.

The police stated that a first investigation report (FIR) has been registered at the Yar Hussain police station against a man named Bakht Zada.

“Further investigations are being conducted in the case,” said the police.

According to Naseem, a total of 22 similar attacks on transgenders have occurred so far in 2018.
