In an attempt to cope with the energy crisis in the country, the government has allocated Rs115.248 billion for ongoing and new schemes in the power sector, included in the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) for the fiscal year 2011-12.
According to the budgetary documents, over Rs71 billion have been earmarked for the completion of on-going schemes while Rs1.225 billion have been reserved for new schemes including the 440 MW CCP Project for Faisalabad and Feasibility Study for Dispersal of Power for the 100 MW imported from Iran. Rs42.953 billion have been allocated for hydro-power projects in the upcoming financial year.
Rs18 billion have been allocated for the Diamer-Basha dam land acquisition and Rs2.5 billion for construction of Diamer-Basha dam project Lot 1 to 5. A sum of Rs10.810 billion has been allocated for Neelum Jhelum, Rs3.241 billion for Dubir Khawar, Rs2.144 billion for Allai Khawar, Rs1.789 billion for Golan Gol, Rs1.124 billion for Jinnah and Rs650.956 million for Bunji hydro-power projects in the PSDP.
An amount of Rs14.577 billion has been specified for 747 MW Guddu power project, Rs13.850 billion for 525 MW Combined Cycle power plant at Chicho Ki Malian, Rs3.845 billion for 425 MW Combined Cycle Nandipur power plant and Rs1.650 billion for power system transmission enhancement project-II. Rs1.8 billion have been granted for the import of a 100 MW power project from Iran and Rs400 million for the interconnection leading to a dispersal of power from Barrage Mounted Kerkey Rental Power plant phase-1.
Another amount of Rs32.866 billion have been allocated for the completion of on-going water projects while Rs3.27 billion have been assigned to fresh schemes in the water sector, including the provision of ground water for development of the industrial sector Balochistan, 100 dams in Balochistan, Makhi Farash Link Canal Project (chotiari).
