ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday acquitted the alleged rapist and murderer of an 11-year-old girl due to the absence of sufficient evidence to support the allegation, reported by a local media outlet.

The SC further said that since the deceased was not medically examined after she died, there wasn’t any sufficient evidence to prove that the event, in fact, had happened.

It was further explained that there was no witness to this incident and her remains were exhumed for the post-mortem, hence it could not be determined as to how the girl was actually murdered. The court also said that no one could be punished without solid evidence.

On June 16, 2012, an 11-year-old girl was raped and then killed in Turbat; her body was later found in a well. The trial court had handed down a death sentence to the accused but a high court had turned the death sentence into a life imprisonment after his appeal.
