ISLAMABAD: Minister for Interior Ahsan Iqbal on Wednesday informed the National Assembly that existing water supply lines in the federal capital will be replaced soon as Rs400 million has been allocated for the purpose.
He said this while responding to a calling attention notice regarding non-supply of clean drinking water to the residents of Islamabad, especially in sector 1-10, G-6 and G-7.
Ahsan Iqbal said that Rs400 million have been allocated to replace water pipes in the capital as existing water supply lines are damaged and wasting huge amount of water. He added that a project costing Rs66 billion has been prepared to bring water from Indus River to Islamabad to meet the growing water requirements of the capital.
The minister also said work on this project will start this year. He added that China has been requested to provide finances for the project under the CPEC.
He said that presently, the total demand of water in the federal capital is 120million gallon while the capital had only 56million gallon water as available resource. He further said that out of 35 tubewells in the federal capital, 15 are out of order and work is underway to make these tubewells operational.
