ISLAMABAD: Awami Muslim League Chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmed claimed on Tuesday that he is ready to resign from the National Assembly, but Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan is stopping him.

“I was ready to resign but Imran Khan told me to wait for seven to eight days,” said the AML chief while flip-flopping from the decision of submitting his resignation during a press conference.

Earlier, Rashid had announced his resignation from the National Assembly during Lahore’s Mall Road rally held on January 17. The protest was led by Pakistan Awami Tehreek chief Dr Tahirul Qadri and witnessed participation of several political parties, including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and the Pakistan People’s Party.

According to Rashid, Imran had expressed ‘complete agreement’ with his decision to resign from the lower house of the parliament.
