Intezar’s father alleges SSP Muqaddas for son’s murder

KARACHI: Ishtiaq Ahmed, the father of slain Intezar Ahmed, accused on Monday that Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Muqaddas Haider is involved in the killing of his son. He also expressed his concerns over Madiha and Salman- the two he claims were accompanying Intezar- not being investigated by the police.

He said the CCTV footage shows that SSP’s guards opened fire on his son, while the guards on the other side (where Madiha was seated) only did the aerial firing.

Responding to the allegations, the Deputy Inspector General Police (DIG) Azad Khan assured the victim’s father that SSP Muqaddas will also be made a part of the ongoing investigation. He added that no leniency will be shown towards Madia, who is said to be the daughter and niece of police officials.

Earlier, a judicial magistrate (South) on Monday extended the judicial remand of eight Anti-Car Lifting Cell (ACLC) officials, allegedly involved in the shooting and killing of a young man in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA), till January 27.

The police produced Inspector Azhar Ahsan Rizvi, Head Constable Ghulam Abbas, Head Constable Shahid, Constable Fawwad Khan and others before the court and requested for the extension of their judicial remand. The investigating officer submitted that the suspects were required in custody for further interrogation.

Granting the request, the court allowed the police to keep the suspects with them on judicial remand till Jan 27.

Intezar Ahmed was reportedly chased down and shot dead by nine undercover police officials after he had failed to stop his car at a picket.

Eight of the nine suspects were arrested, while one, Inspector Tariq Raheem, remains out on a bail. A judicial inquiry was ordered by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah upon the request of the slain teen’s father.

Intizar was studying in a Malaysian university, who had returned to Pakistan to spend holidays. He was in his car with a friend when the police in plain clothes fired upon his car. The friend had fortunately managed to escape unscathed.
