  • PPP chief launches nationwide membership drive of the party

KARACHI: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto on Sunday called for an end to the trend of extrajudicial killings in the country, saying he condemns all police encounters across Pakistan.

The PPP chairman was addressing the inauguration ceremony regarding a countrywide membership drive of the party here.

Launching the membership drive, Bilawal invited all the progressive Pakistanis, especially the youth and women to fill the membership form and join the ideology working for a peaceful, progressive and prosperous Pakistan.

The PPP chairman launched the membership campaign at a press conference at the Media Cell of Bilawal House. PPP Secretary-General Nayyar Hussain Bukhari, PPP Sindh and Balochistan Presidents Nisar Ahmed Khuhro and Haji Ali Madad Jattak respectively, Senator Sherry Rehman, Maula Bux Chandio, Members National Assembly (MNA) Nafisa Shah, Nasir Shah, Waqar Mehdi and others were also present on the occasion.

Giving out the details, Bilawal said that the membership campaign will be conducted door-to-door, through camps and also by utilization of modern communication technology of the internet and cellular networks. The website (www.pppmember.com) and SMS will also offer membership option so as to reach out to the maximum number of people.

PPP chairman said that membership drive has been designed to reduce the gap between him and the workers, adding that following the successful completion of the drive, he would be able to communicate directly with the workers and the members through the modern means of communication.

He further informed that the party members would be able to register a complaint on the website against any party leader, and this would ensure transparency in a better way. He also said that a list of the registered members will be posted on the website at the end of the drive.

He said that PPP launched Benazir Income Support Programme at the federal level and now the Sindh government has started the anti-poverty programme at the Union Council levels in which rural population would be able to get interest-free loans, especially women who have pulled out as many as 600,000 families out of poverty in some districts.

He said that under the philosophy of service-oriented politics, we have provided state-of-the-art health facilities including free heart treatment hospitals in Sehwan Sharif, Hyderabad, Tando Mohammad and Larkana.

He called upon the people of Pakistan, especially the youth to join the service-oriented positive politics in the country and shut the doors to politics of negativity and insults being promoted by the parties fighting for a particular area of GT Road.

Answering a question asked by a journalist, Bilawal said that he against the police encounters anywhere in Pakistan, and such practices must come to an end.
