Health minister evaluates performance of hospitals, takes action against doctors

LAHORE: Minister for Primary and Secondary Healthcare Khawaja Imran Nazir asked the doctors on Saturday to identify the disturbing elements in their community who are earning a bad name for the sacred profession.

He was presiding over a meeting of medical superintendents of all the District Health Quarter (DHQ) and Tehsil Head Quarter (THQ) hospital here at a local hotel.

He said that awards would be given to the hard workers while punishment will be given to the one who is not performing the duty.

The minister further said that performance evaluation of all the staff of the department is being carried out on monthly basis. The health minister said that he has issued directions to the health secretary to take disciplinary action against the five doctors of different hospitals who referred the patients from the government hospital to their private clinics any valid justification.

The performance of every hospital was individually evaluated in the meeting. Matters including average patient turnover per doctor, treatment facilities, development work in the hospitals, deployment of trained staff, revamping of the hospitals and the outcome of outsourced non-clinical services were discussed.

The minister was informed about the appointment orders of 74 pharmacists to be deployed them DHQ and THQ hospitals. Health Secretary Ali Jan Khan said that specialized units are being set up in the DHQ and THQ hospitals and for this purpose, special training to the nurses is also being imparted in the teaching hospitals.

The health secretary also directed that after completion of specialized training, the nurses should be given assignments according to their expertise instead of performing a general duty.

Health Department Director-General Dr Akhtar Rasheed Malik, Additional Secretary Dr Sadain, Director Project Management Unit Muhammad Usman, team members of Project management Unit (PMU) and other concerned officers of the department also attended the monthly meeting.
