ISLAMABAD: Indonesian President Joko Widodo will address the joint sitting of the parliament (Majlis-e-Shura) on January 26 (Friday) at 6 pm. He will be the 17th foreign dignitary who will address the National Assembly and senate’s joint sitting, said a press release here Friday.
The foreign dignitaries who have addressed a joint sitting of the parliament included, Shah of Iran Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, Philippines President Diodas Macapagal, Indonesian President Dr Ahmed Soekarno, Sri Lankan Prime Minister Bandaranaike, Turkish President Kenan Evren, Palestinian President Yasser Arafat, French President François Mitterrand, Majlis-i-Shura-i-Islami of Iran Speaker Hujjat Ul Islam Mehdi Karroubi, Iranian President Ali Akbar Hashmi Rafsanjani, Majlis-i-Shura-i-Islami of Iran Speaker Hojjatol Islam Val Moslemin Ali Akbar Nategh Nouri, Chinese President Jiang Zemin, Queen Elizabeth-II, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao, Chinese Prime Minister Li Kegiang and Chinese President Xi Jingping.
Tayyip Erdogan has the unique honour of addressing the joint sitting of the parliament thrice. Widodo would be the second President of Indonesia who would address the joint sitting of the parliament.
Earlier, Indonesian President Dr Ahmed Soekarno had addressed the National Assembly of Pakistan on 26 June, 1963.
