Five al Qaeda leaders kill in Nangarhar military operation

NANGARHAR: At least five members of al Qaeda network were killed in a special military operation in Nangarhar province, the provincial media office said in a statement on Friday, reported by Tolo News.

The operation was conducted in Toto area in Shirzad district in Nangarhar on Thursday night, the statement said.

Foreign militants, a suicide bombing plotter and a key member of the group were among those killed in the offensive, the statement said.

The statement said the three foreign militants included Chechen and Pakistani citizens.

Security forces arrested an armed militant and two suspects in the operation, the statement read.

Nangarhar has so far witnessed heavy military operations to target militant groups, including Daesh militants.

One of the terrorists was identified as Mullah Sundi aka Siraj and was actively involved in spreading propaganda.

At least four Ak-47 rifles, a PKM machine gun, a pistol and some ammunition were also confiscated, the statement said, adding that the local residents and security personnel have not suffered any casualties during the operation.
