KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah directed the Local Government Department on Monday to complete one track of Submarine Chowrangi underpass till Sunday so that it could be opened for traffic soon.
He issued these directives while presiding over a meeting to review Karachi Package schemes at the CM House. The meeting was attended by the Local Government Minister Jam Khan Shoro, Principal Secretary to the CM Sohail Rajput, Planning and Development (P&D) Secretary Shireen Narejo and other senior officers of Planning and Development and Finance Department including Niaz Soomro and Khalid Mansoor also participated in the meeting.
The chief minister said that he was keen to start the construction of a bridge at the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Gizri Boulevard with a cost of Rs700 million. However, this work would start in full swing when one track of Submarine Chowrangi Underpass would be opened for traffic.
He also discussed the scheme of a bridge at Intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Gizri Boulevard for which work has already been started. “I want to complete this scheme within three months,” he said.
In the meeting, the Local Government Minister apprised the chief minister of the progress of different schemes. He said that construction of a road from Tank Chowrangi to Super Highway via Thadho Nalla launched for Rs350 million is under construction. He added that it would be an important alternative route for the traffic of Malir and its adjoining areas towards Super Highway and its related routes. Shoro said that the construction of Tipu Sultan Road from Shahrah-e-Faisal at the cost of Rs280 million is a two-kilometre road and its carpeting has already been started. Work on a bridge at Tipu Sultan and intersection at Shaheed-e-Millat Road is also under construction, he added.
On the occasion, the chief minister also directed Jam Khan Shoro to name an under construction bridge in the name of Shaheed (Martyred) Lieutenant Yasir Abbas so that his sacrifice and bravery could always be remembered.
