LAHORE: The ‘Pakistan Horti Expo-2018’ kicked off on Saturday to highlight the importance of fruits, vegetables and high-value agriculture crops of the country.
Punjab governor Malik Muhammad Rafiq Rajwana inaugurated the exhibition which is being organised by the Punjab agriculture department.
On this occasion, Rajwana said that this event will give a new horizon and open new doors of opportunities for the producer, exporter and companies indulging in the horticulture business in the country. He appreciated the agriculture department for organising such a mega event.
Punjab agriculture department secretary Muhammad Mahmood said that that horticultural production was a highly profitable enterprise which increases employment opportunities and increases the commercialisation of the rural areas. However, he said that much more efforts are needed to bring the resource-poor farmers and landless labourers into this development.
“There are lots of investment opportunities that are emerging in Pakistan to support the sustainability of quality food production,” he said while adding that the government is committed to facilitate foreign investors with the provision of technical services.
Delegates from over 40 countries are participating in the exhibition while over 100 different stalls have been set-up at the event.
