At least 30 security personnel have been killed in fighting with insurgents during the last 24 hours. According to latest reports, 45 insurgents were also killed.
The fight erupted in Upper Dir after about 200 insurgents crossed over from Afghanistan and attacked a security check post.
Skirmishes had been going on for 24 hours in a village, Ghulam Muhammad Khan, in Upper Dir, a top government official said.
“We are preparing to evacuate 25 bodies from the village,” he said, referring to police and paramilitary forces killed in the fighting that spread to a forest. People have started leaving the area at a large scale.
