Shah Rukh Khan has always been an active humanitarian. Though he tends to lay low about his welfare work, it does not go unnoticed. Hence, the actor is being honoured with the Crystal Award at the World Economic Forum’s 48th Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland.
The actor will receive the honour at the 24th Annual Crystal Awards along with Cate Blanchett and Sir Eton John.
Shah Rukh Khan is being bestowed with the honour for his leadership in championing children’s and women’s rights in India.
He is the founder of the non‐profit Meer Foundation, which provides support to female victims of acid attacks and major burn injuries through medical treatment, legal aid, vocational training, rehabilitation and livelihood support. He has also been responsible for the creation of specialized children’s hospital wards and has supported childcare centres with free boarding for children undergoing cancer treatment.
Speaking about his foundation, Khan said, “With victims of acid attacks I have had the privilege to witness the unparalleled courage and compassion that women are capable of. I have seen the transformative strength of goodness and the healing power of gentleness.”
On receiving the honour, Khan tweeted, “Thank u for this honour. I consider my work with these heroic & beautiful women a great privilege as it imparts dignity & purpose to my life. I hope to spread awareness of the unparalleled heroism of these ladies & reach out to others in order to carry this work to its conclusion.”

The World Economic Forum’s 48th Annual Meeting in Davos will begin later this month, under the theme of “Creating a Shared Future in a Fractured World”. The 24th Annual Crystal Awards celebrate the achievements of outstanding artists who have shown exemplary commitment to improving the state of the world.
Cate Blanchett is being honoured for her leadership in raising awareness of the refugee crisis, while Sir Elton John is receiving it for his leadership in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
