ISLAMABAD: The heart-wrenching incident of rape and brutal murder of a six-year-old Zainab in the Kasur district has shaken the very fabric of the society, triggering waves of protests and condemnations from across the country.
Like the rest of the country, the civil society activists, students along with daily-wage teachers took to roads of the capital and protested against the inhumane and barbaric act of rape and the subsequent killing of the minor.
The protestors venting their anger demanded that the culprits should be awarded an exemplary punishment so that no one ever dares to commit such a crime again. They lashed out at the government for what they called its failure to ensure the safety and security of the people.
Speaking to the protestors in front of the National Press Club, Mrs Farrukh Khan, central president Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q) Women Wing condemned the kidnapping and the brutal killing of Zainab.
She termed the tragic incident the worst inhumane act and demanded that the culprits should be rounded up forthwith and awarded an exemplary punishment.
Farrukh said that such inhumane and shameful incidents have been recurring in Kasur and its environs, but the ruling junta has turned blind and consequently, the culprits have been encouraged to commit such crimes again and again.
She said that the rulers do not bother about the safety and security of the people and that is why the culprits involved in such crimes are scot-free, adding that the killers of the minor are beasts and not humans.
Daily-wage staffers of the capital’s government-run schools, who have been protesting for the last ten days in favor of their demands, condemned the tragic incident and demanded that the culprits should be given an exemplary punishment.
The students of Quaid-e-Azam University and Urdu University also held protest rallies and demanded an exemplary punishment for the culprits.
The students said that it is not the time to stay silent and demanded from the chief justice to take notice of the heinous crime and bring the culprits to justice.
They too demanded an exemplary punishment for the criminals, while adding that the incident may not have taken place had strict action been taken against the culprits involved in the 2015 Kasur child abuse scandal.
The protesters expressed outrage over the rape and murder of several children in Kasur over the past several months. As many as 12 children have been raped and strangled to death in the city within one year.
