ISLAMABAD: Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah along with the regional police officer on Thursday warned people to be wary of Senior Advocate Ahmad Raza Kasuri’s claim that the suspect responsible for raping and murdering 7-year-old Zainab in Kasur has been arrested.

Zainab had gone to a tuition centre near her residence in the Road Kot area on January 4th after which she went missing. Five days later, her body was found in a garbage pile in the vicinity of Kashmir Chow sparking riots, protests and national outrage.

The senior lawyer stated that he had been informed directly by the chief justice of Pakistan (CJP) during a personal meeting which he said was on the format of appreciating the CJP’s suo moto notice of the case.

“The chief justice gave me the good news that the culprit has been caught,” he told the media.

Kasuri further claimed that the man seen holding Zainab’s hand in the CCTV footage is the child’s relative.

“Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif taking notice of the incident has ordered for the case’s charge-sheet to be presented in court within 24 hours and has asked for the details of 12 similar pending cases,” said his spokesperson.

He has announced a Rs 10 million reward for anyone who identifies the man behind the monstrous crime, as well as, a Rs 3 million relief for the families of the two protestors who were killed by the police during protests.

Earlier in the day, he visited Zainab’s house where he offered his condolences and promised the deceased child’s parents that the culprit(s) behind the abominable crime will be hauled into court.
