ISLAMABAD: Education and Professional Training Federal Minister, Engineer Muhammad Baligh-ur-Rehman on Wednesday said that universities can play a greater role and provide a contribution to the economy.
During a meeting held here with the Aga Khan University (AKU) President Firoz Rasul, the minister said that the promotion of education is a priority of the government.
The federal minister welcomed the AKU’s president and matters related to education were discussed.
During the meeting, Firoz Rasul shared the results of a study on the Aga Khan University’s Economic Impact in Pakistan with the minister.
He said that AKU commissioned the Centennial International from Washington DC to undertake the economic study of its activities and inputs in Pakistan.
He further stated that this study not only examines the gross value add created by AKU and the number of jobs it supports, but more importantly, the significant public benefits in Pakistan.
Baligh appreciated the AKU and emphasised the need for linkages between academia and industry. The federal minister said that academia-industry linkage is vital for the economic development.
