PESHAWAR: Afghanistan Consul General Dr Muhammad Moeen Marastyal, in Peshawar, on Wednesday, said that the leaders of Pakistan and Afghanistan need to evolve a joint strategy as they are facing similar issues of terrorism and extremism.

“Pakistan and Afghanistan are not only each other’s neighbours but their people are linked with each other through unbreakable relations,” he remarked while addressing a condolence reference here at the Peshawar Press Club.

The condolence reference was arranged for commemorating the services of late Muhammad Alamzeb Khan, founding chairman of Regional Forum for Peace and Democracy. Alamzeb passed away in November last year.

The condolence reference was also addressed by Dr Noor Ul Amin Yousafzai, Liaqat Seemab, Jamal Khattak, Shamim Shahid, Shaukat Ali, Kulsoom Zaib, Zaiba Afridi, Anwar Zeb Khan, Kifayat Ali and others.

On behalf of the family, Tariq Alam Khan son of late Alam Zeb Khan thanked the organisers and the Afghanistan Consul General for arranging and attending the reference.

Dr Muhammad Moeen Marsatyal reminded that in the last two decades both the neighbouring countries have been badly affected by terrorism and extremism.

“Thousands of innocent people have been killed, injured and billions of dollars infrastructure has been destroyed,” he recalled and added that, “However, a large number of peace-loving people from both the countries like Alamzeb Khan have made hectic efforts for the return of peace and tranquillity and deserve appreciation.”

Stressing for maximum cooperation and coordination between the two neighbouring countries, Afghanistan consul general said that Pakistan and Afghanistan should also work towards fighting illiteracy, poverty and unemployment as these are major issues faced by both the countries other than terrorism and extremism.

“Like the European world, it is the time for all regional countries to enter into an era of trust and confidence, which will lead to progress and prosperity in the region,” he said.

The Afghan diplomat also thanked Pakistan for showing hospitality to the Afghan refugees and urged for increasing people to people contact to end all prevalent misunderstanding and to form better relations between the two countries.
