LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif paid a surprise visit to Pakistan Kidney and Liver Transplant Institute (PKLI) on Monday.

He went to different sections of the OPD, inquired after the health of patients there, inspected the pharmacy and checked the process of provision of medicines to the patients.

Talking on the occasion, the chief minister expressed his jubilation on the matter that this hospital has become a role model institution for the whole country and that he has been feeling happy to visit it.

“I shall continue to regularly visit this hospital to remain abreast the medical facilities being provided here,” he said.

Meanwhile, a high-level meeting to review the construction work and installation of medical equipment during the second phase was held at the PKLI. The CM directed to operationalize the second phase by March 23 and that the process of kidney and liver transplants can start on the same day.

Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafiq, chief secretary, P&D chairman, PKLI BOD chairman Dr Saeed Akhter and others attended the meeting.

Later, the CM while talking to the media said, “Niazi Sahib alleged that I have taken 23 billion rupees as bribe from Javed Sadiq. Upon it, I sent a notice to him to which he has not replied until today. Then the allegation of 10 billion rupees bribe was levelled in Panama Case. I filed a suit but he is avoiding appearing before the court.”

“In a TV program, Khan Sahib claimed that he will eliminate load shedding in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) in five years, however, he has been unable to produce a single kilowatt of electricity to this day. Meanwhile, the Punjab government using its own resources has completed electricity generation projects that provide electricity to the whole country,” he said.

To a question asked about the Baluchistan government, the CM replied that we support the democratic process and added that all the political parties should also support it. “The beauty of democracy is that elected representatives decide themselves and we are hopeful that PML-N government shall continue in Baluchistan,” he said.
