ISLAMABAD: The Central Selection Board (CSB) will meet on Tuesday (January 9) to decide the fate of over 200 officers of BS-18, 19 and 20, who are in line for promotions. The four-day meeting will start from January 9 and will continue till January 12.
According to documents available with Pakistan Today, the meeting would be held at the Cabinet Division block at 11:00 am on Tuesday and would be chaired by the Federal Public Service Commission Chairman Naveed Akram Cheema.
The Establishment Division would decide the fate of over 200 bureaucrats working in different government departments in the centre and the provinces. Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Ameer Haider Khan, Senator Saud Majeed, Establishment Division Secretary Maroof Afzal, chief secretaries and inspector generals (IGs) of the four provinces would also attend the meeting.
The body would comprise of 18 officers, including chief secretaries, IGs and two politicians, who would recommend promotions of officers from grade 18 to 19, grade 19 to 20, and grade 20 to grade 21.
The officers whose promotions were pending and would be evaluated in the meeting belonged to the finance, cabinet, establishment, revenue, health, education, police and other departments of the centre and provinces, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan.
According to sources, as the government nears the completion of its term in the next few months, the promotion may largely reflect the political interests of the ruling party Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
The previous CSBs held in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017, were all mired in controversy over allegations of promoting political loyalists to top government positions in Pakistan.
It was the fourth revision of the promotion criteria during the tenure of the incumbent government as litigation in local courts had been the major reason for the revision. The evaluation of officers this time would be different since a new policy had been adopted by the government under which training of officers would be given more importance.
Under the new criteria, the Establishment Division had increased the marks from 15 to 35 for Training Evaluation Report (TER), and decreased the marks from 70 to 50 for Performance Evaluation Report.
