Young doctors should serve humanity irrespective of ones’ caste, creed or language: KP Governor

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor, Engineer Iqbal Zafar Jhagra has said that research and medical education are the backbones of any academic institution, hence playing a pivotal role in treating and providing care to the population of any country.

He expressed these views as the chief guest at the convocation of Khyber College of Dentistry, Peshawar on Monday.  Prof. Dr Arshad Javed, the Khyber Medical University vice chancellor, Prof. Dr Ghulam Rasool, dean Khyber College of Dentistry, faculty members, the passing out graduates, and the parents of the students were also present on this occasion.

“Realising your cherished dreams remind you that the road ahead is long but you need to apply the skills with honesty and a code of ethics must be followed,” said the governor while congratulating the passing out students.

The governor also said that the students’ parents and faculty have put in sustained and sincere efforts to enable them to lead a successful practical life.

Now that the students have started a new life full of opportunities, they are expected to take up challenges boldly and not to miss the opportunities to excel in their profession, he added.

The governor while addressing the ceremony also said that institutions need teamwork to grow and to rise above gender, caste, race, and regionalism.

“To do so, you must eliminate bias by deciding every issue on the basis of factual figures, dignity, transparency, accountability, and meritocracy,” he said.

The Governor urged the young doctors to perform their duties with the aim to serve humanity irrespective of ones’ creed, colour, caste or language.

Jhagra also awarded degrees and medals to 68 graduates in dentistry, out of which 17 students were awarded gold medals and 10,000 rupees. Rs.1 million for the Khyber College of Dentistry was also announced by the governor.

While congratulating the graduates, their parents and the faculty, the governor wished the students success for their future.

Earlier, the dean of the college, Prof. Dr Ghulam Rasool welcomed the governor and highlighted the institute’s achievements.
