Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani on Tuesday cancelled the appointment of Nasir Ali Khan, ambassador at large of the Foreign Ministry, with immediate effect. A handout said his services were no longer required by the government.
The government of President Asif Ali Zardari appointed an optician-turned-foreign policy expert Nasir Ali Khan as an ambassador at large on April 28, 2008, presumably on the advice of former foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi as.
Nasir visited 25 countries in his initial 24 months of service, costing the national exchequer Rs 15 million. A source said the only credentials Nasir had were playing “marbles with Shah Mehmood Qureshi at school”.
